James Dixon Hunting or Saddle Flask c.1880 (Flask189)

This conical flask has a solid silver bayonet or captured cap at its narrow end.
It is stamped "J.D.& S." (James Dixon & Sons) and hallmarked Sheffield with a head of Queen Victoria - dating from the 1870's or 1880's.
The cork in the lid has been replaced recently to prevent leaks.
The flask is handblown heavy crystal with a star pattern cut on its base

The tan coloured case has a good patina.
Unusually the girth strap is attached so that the flask will sit on the off-side of the saddle.
The case closes with a billet fastening and has its original top strap which attaches the flask to the D ring of the saddle.
