A 19th Century Steel Bridoon Bit

An old heavy jointed snaffle or bridoon bit made in steel.
This could be used on its own , or with a weymouth on a double bridle.
This example has a large mouthpiece and very small bit rings.
The bit rings are positioned horizontally, which is unusual. Perhaps it did not attach directly to the headpiece of the bridle ? There is some surface oxidation. There are no makers marks.

Mouthpiece 16cm (6¼")
Rings 3.2cm (1¼")
Weight 205g (7¼oz)
