A 19th Century Steel Curb Bit with a Segundo Mouth

This Victorian horse bit was hand forged in steel
The metal has a dark aged patina.
Its long cheeks can move through 90 degrees.
It has a Segundo mouthpiece. Don Juan de Segundo designed several mouthpieces and described and illustrated them in "A Treatise on the Bitting of Horses", part of Benjamin Latchford's 1885 book, "The Loriner".
One cheek has part of a maker's stamp remaining - it reads "Mac......& Co", there is a trace of a stamp on the port, but this is difficult to read.

Dimensions : Mouthpiece 5" (12.7cm), Cheek length 8½" (21.6cm)
Weight : 557g (1lb 3¾oz)
