A WW1 US Cavalry Bridle belonging to Col.J.Leader - Sold

This bridle is made of tan coloured leather.
It has a thick brass eagle rosettes on each side of the browband. These have a dark patina.
The bridle has brass buckles and loops on its cheekpieces - presumably for the attachment of a watering or T-bar bit.
It has old loose ring snaffle bit - this has a rusted surface and I cannot find any marks or stamps on it.
Originally a curb bit would have been used.
The bridle has its original reins.
There is a paper label attached to the bit which reads " Bit and reins US army 1917. Given to Col. J Leader with his black charger by the State of Oregon".
Colonel John Leader was a remarkable man - born in Pakistan, of Irish descent he was a talented sportsman, translator of several languages and served in many conflicts with the British army until badly injured at the Battle of the Somme in World War One.
He subsequently set up the Officer's Training Corps at the University of Oregon - there is a full biography of him on a University of Oregon page here.
I wish I knew how his bridle ended up in a regional English auction house.
