A 19th Century Buxton Coaching Bit by Latchford, Piccadilly

This elegant Buxton coaching bit is made from steel,
The mouthpiece has a high port.
There is an eyelet in the centre of the port, players or keys could have been attached to this.
The cheeks are fixed and are connected by a straight shackle bar.
The bit still has its original elegant curb hooks and chain.
One cheek is stamped "Latchford" and the other "Piccadilly"
This probably refers to John Latchford who was recorded as a bit and spur maker at 36, Piccadilly between 1819 and 1843. He was probably related to Edward and Banjamin Latchford of St.Martin's Lane.

Dimensions : Mouthpiece 5¼" (13cm), total cheek length 10½" (26.5cm)
Weight : 710g (1lb 9oz)
