A pair of vintage ice skates, these have beech platforms which have a cut down section at the back to accomodate boot heel. There are a few woodworm holes in one of the skates, the woodworm has been treated. There is a Heel screw and two barbs in the toe to prevent the boot slipping.
The skates have their original leather straps at the front, the leather is a little fragile now. There is a slot in the wood at the back for another strap.
The blades are steel, each is stamped "W.Marples & Son, Makers, Sheffield" and "Hibernia" with a shamrock. Hibernia was the name of the works operated by William Marples & Son from the mid 19th century. These skates probably date from around 1900.
Dimensions: The blades measure 11½" (29.5cm) long
