An antique military saddle. This was probably an officer's Mark IV saddle and a private purchase,
The firm of Whippy Stegall & Co. was a prestigious saddlery company established in the 1790's, they operated at North Audley Street until the second World War.
The saddle has burrs in the front and fans at the back.
There is a 1cm diameter area of worn leather on the pommel, one of the brass fittings on the right fan is missing. There is also a split at the waist of the saddle on the seat and a stitched repair underneath
