An iron spur with an eight-pointed rowel that turns freely.
The spur has a long neck - these developed to reach under horse bardings or armour.
The heel bands are curved, they would pass below the rider's ankle bone.
There is a line of incised decoration around the heel band.
There would have been a double eyelet on each of the arms which would have attached to hooks and a buckle, this has broken off on one side, a metal loop from a hook has fused onto the other side.
Very few of these long-necked spurs survive.
Dimensions : 205mm (8") including the rowel
Width 76mm (3")
