A Pair of Georgian Steel Cage Stirrups for Cavalry

A beautifully crafted pair of steel stirrups for cavalry or military use. These stirrups are stamped "GR" & "Patent 9", This probably refers to George III (1760 - 1820), the stamp pre-dates the modern patent system and comes from the era when Royal patents were given at the discretion of the monarch. The steel has a really good aged patina, the stirrups are in mint condition. This cage pattern would protect the feet from swords or crushing injuries.

Approx weight of pair : 1lb 12½oz (810g)
