This whip would have been carried by an outrider or postillion rider on one of the horses of a coach
The shaft or stock is covered in braided thread
It has a brass cap and four further brass ferrules or collars along its length
There is a copper medal in the end of the cap it shows the heads of Queen Victoria & Prince Albert & is dated 1849. There are a few dents and dings on the cap
The whip ends in a small rawhide loop or keeper.
There is a braided hide thong which is bound at its end but would originally have been finished with a cord lash
