Vintage Gent's Malacca Hunting Whip with Thong

This whip probably dates from the early 20th Century.
It has a staghorn or antler handle with a good aged patina.
It has a silver coloured collar (probably nickel) with ribbed edges, it is not stamped or engraved.

The stock or shaft of the whip is made of gold coloured malacca cane. According to Swaine & Adeney's website " Early in this century, Malacca was referred to as the "King of Canes." Malacca is one species of rattan (Calamus Ascipionum) found on the coast of Sumatra. Rattan palms have long, slender stems, and were perfect for fashioning. The stem is not round, but has a ridge or spine, often called a "teardrop," running along its length. It is very light-weight, yet strong, with no two specimens being alike."

It has its original leather open keeper or loop at its end.

The whip has a good quality thong, complete with loop at its end to hold a lash.

Dimensions : Staghorn handle : 6" (15cm), Length not including keeper 20¼" (51.5cm), Keeper : 5¾" (14.8cm), Thong (not including lash) 61" (155cm)
