This long whip has a staghorn handle with a raised "gatepusher" section on its top.
There is a silver button stamped "Callow & Son, Park Lane, London" on the heel of the horn.
There is a metal stud nead the tip of the horn - presumably to help with pulling gates
It has two silver collars with engine turned decoration, there is a blank oval shield on each collar
There are no visible hallmarks on either collar.
This whip came from Hooton Pagnell in Yorkshire together with two others that belonged to Julia Warde-Aldam, a previous owner of the estate.
Between the collars the grip of the whip is covered in leather with a finely stitched seam, sadly there is an inch long piece of leather missing - please see the images.
The rest of the long tapering whalebone shaft is covered in braided thread.
The whip has its original lash which is rather fragile.
Dimensions : 33¼" (84.5cm) long not including lash, the handle measures 4¼" (11cm)
Weight : 4oz 116g
Ref : whip1196
