This whip has a cap and collar of two coloured bone.
There is a silver button on top of the cap stamped "Thorn, 185 Regent Street".
There are post office records of Thorn as a whipmaker at this address from around 1838, Thorn was also in partnership with Crowther at this address around 1840.
Between the cap and collar the handle is covered in black braided whalebone or balleen.
The long slim whalebone shaft is covered in braided thread which is in good condition.
