A sidesaddle whip, the shaft and grip covered in braided thread, probably linen or hemp. The shaft is lightweight and more flexible than modern whips, there is a bend in its length. It ends in the very small loop that would have held a lash.
The whip has a silver coloured octagonal finial and collar decorated with a nail. Possibly a colonial piece?
