1899 Polo or Jockey Whip by Swaine - Sold
This long whip has a staghorn handle with a raised "gatepusher" section on its top.
There is a silver button stamped "Swaine & Co, London" on the heel of the horn.
It has two collars, the one closest to the horn is unmarked and is likely to be a replacement.
The lower collar is hallmarked London 1899.
Between the collars the grip of the whip is covered in leather with a finely stitched seam.
The rest of the long tapering whalebone shaft is covered in braided thread.
The whip has the remains of its original vellum and silk lash at its end
