This whip has a staghorn handle.
There is a silver button in the heel of the staghorn, it is stamped "Maxwell. London".
It has a two silver collars, the upper collar is engraved "J.S. 1st June 1915".
The hallmark on the upper collar has been obscured by many small dents where the whip has been used to open gates.
The lower collar is hallmarked London 1913 & has the silversmith's stamp "ESA" - this means that the whip was actually made by Swaine & Adeney but retailed by Maxwell who were better known for boots and spurs.
Between the collars the whip is covered in braided mahogany coloured leather.
The rest of the stock or shaft is covered in braided linen or hemp.
It has a good replacement stitched leather keeper.
