This canteen has a good quality dark chestnut coloured leather case. The stitching is good and all the buckles and straps are in good order.
There is a little wear to the leather on the left side of the flap of the lid (see images)
It is unlined in and has an internal partition.
Inside there is a rectangular flask, with a plated captured or bayonet cap, this is stamped with a trumpet and banner and "J.D.&S".
There is also a double hinged sandwich tin, stamped "James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield, Made in England, 916S" and with the company's trumpet & banner mark.
There is a dent on the top of the sandwich tin and rubbing of the plating on its outside.
