In his book "The Loriner" Benjamin Latchford describes this style of bit as branch cheek bit.
Such bits were also used by mounted infantry officers.
It is made of steel. The mouthpiece has a low port.
It is stamped "London" but I cannot read the maker's name.
The cheeks are curved, each bears a rein loop, there is no shackle bar.
There would have been a regimental cheek boss or badge on each side of the bit, but these have been removed.
The bit still has its original curb hooks and chain.
Dimensions : mouthpiece 12.5cm (5"), cheeks 19cm (8") not including rein loops
Weight 566g (1 lb 4¼ oz)
Ref : bit548
