This is a hand forged heavy steel bit.
It has light surface oxidation and the surface of the cheeks is a little pitted.
It is quite heavy and was probably made for a farm or draft horse.
It a jointed snaffle with a central ring which holds a pendant with three keys or players.
Such bits were used when breaking in, the moving parts were supposed to encourage the young horse to relax its mouth. The bit also has long cheeks - useful when teaching a young horse to steer.
