A Hanoverian Pelham bit ( I wrote a short blog about these HERE.
It is made from steel, with a dark aged patina
. The bit has a medium port which is hinged, its joints still move freely.
There are six cherry rollers, which all turn.
One cheek is stamped "Forged" and "Cross & Co" - this may refer to Mark W. Cross & Co, 19th Century importers and suppliers of saddlery & harness based in Boston, MA.
The other cheek is stamped "WB & Co", probably the manufacturers.
Dimensions : Mouthpiece 5½" (14cm), total
cheek length ( not including curb rein rings) 7½" (19.2cm)
Weight : 675g (1lb 8oz)
Ref : bit785
