These are original hand-colored engravings from "A History of British Birds" by Rev. Francis Orpen Morris, c.1870.
A series of five hand coloured prints of gamebirds.
The birds depicted are the black grouse, the pheasant, the quail, the red-legged partridge and the red grouse.
These nicely detailed prints are in good condition.
(Although the mount of the pheasant is water stained)
They have new glazed wooden frames.
Francis Orpen Morris' A History of British Birds was commissioned by the printer
Benjamin Fawcett.
Its six volumes ran to many editions between 1852 and 1903.
Morris took a great interest in conservation and was one of the founders of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
Dimensions : Each frame measures 11¾" (30cm) x 9¼" (23.5cm)
