This bit came from the house of a member of he Habsburg family
It is made of steel.
It has two jointed mouthpieces, the joints are off-set so that when the bit is bent they form a "W" shape.
One mouthpiece is twisted, making it more severe
A ring passes through both mouthpieces at each end,
An inner pair of bit rings sits around the mouthpiece
The cheekpieces or headstall would attach to the inner rings.
The reins attach to the outer rings - which would create a more severe "nutcracker ( as if a narrow twisted mouthpiece with a W action were not severe enough ?).
There are no maker's marks or stamps.

Dimensions : mouthpiece 14cm (5½"), Rings 7.6cm (3")

Weight 315g (11⅛ oz)
