This is an old hand forged bit The jointed steel mouthpiece is curved and has a dark aged patina. There are thick brass cheek rings.
There are short leather loops with brass buckles on each ring these could be detached from the bridle, making this a watering bit. It was probably used on a working dray or farm horse.
