A Silver Slipper Stirrup for a Girl - Sold
This single stirrup is made of silver and comes from Latin America, most probably Peru.
It is smaller than many examples and was probably made for a child.
At the top of its suspension arch there is a cast figure holding a bar - the stirrup leather would have passed through his (or her ?) arms.
The arch itself has a cast rose where it pivots around the base of the stirrup.
The base itself is shaped and has simple decoration around its edge.
The toe was functional as well as decorative, it covered the front of the foot, preventing it from slipping through the iron and getting trapped.
It is decorated with a floral design and has a central red "stone" (probably glass)
