This long whip dates from the late 19th Century.
It is longer than modern hunting whips.
It has a staghorn handle
It has a nickel collar with a decorative pattern and a blank round cartouche for engraving.
The shaft or stock is made of golden-brown malacca cane. it has darkened at its lower end, probably from contact with horse sweat.
There is a leather loop or open keeper at the end of the whip, this has split and holds the remains of a braided thong.
This whip could be restored with a new keeper for use today or it would look good on display
Total Length not including leather keeper or loop : 28; inches (71cm)
Keeper 4 inches (10cm), Staghorn 4 inches (10cm)
Weight 165g (5¾oz)
