This whip has a staghorn handle.
There is a silver button on the heel of the staghorn which is stamped "Jas & Ino Skinner, London" and also shows a lion on a crown.
James and John Skinner were recorded as whip makers in Finsbury Place, London in various commercial directories in the early 19th Century (the earliest reference I have found is 1803).
The whip has two braided silver wire collars.
The entire stock or shaft is made of black and brown baleen or whalebone.
The grip between the collars has been twisted and carved to resemble holly.
It has its original rawhide open keeper or loop, the binding may have been replaced.
