1892 Hunting Whip with Racing Scene on Silver Collar - w1579
This whip has a bone hook shaped handle.
There is a fine hairline crack at the back of the handle, but there is no movement or instability around it.
It has a slver collar hallmarked Birmingham 1862.
It also has the silversmith's stamp "HS".
The collar is decorated in relief with a horseracing or hunting scene, showing three mounted riders and a fence.
The long stock or shaft is made of red brown malacca cane with its distinctive ridged cross section.
There are a few dark marks on the cane.
It has its original rawhide open keeper and a long thong which ends in a knot around a yellow cord lash.
