1894 Callow Hunting Whip with Axe Handle - w1465
1894 Callow Hunting Whip with Axe Handle - w1465
This whip has a heavy steel handle with a black japanned or enamelled finish.
It is shaped like a traditional antler or staghorn handle but has an axe blade on its rear edge.
There is a steel gatepusher stud on the top of the handle.
It has two silver collars stamped "Callow" and hallmarked London 1894 - several of the marks are rubbed and difficult to read.
There are a couple of very small dents in the collars.
The grip between the collars is covered in tan leather with a finely stitched seam.
The rest of the stock or shaft is covered in braided linen or hemp.
It has its original open leather keeper or loop at its end
It is remarkably well balanced considering its heavy handle
