1913 Hunting or Saddle Canteen with Sandwich Tin & Silver Mounted Flask - sandwich186
This is a dark tan coloured leather case .
Its fine stitching is very good and all the buckles and straps are all present. The girth strap ends with holes for a buckle, an additional buckled strap would be needed to secure the case to the girth
The lid closes with a brass billet fastening.
The back of the case is stamped "Merry St. James St., London"
There is a leather "tongue" protruding on the front of the case - this is continuous with a strap that passes under the sandwich tin - it could be used to help remove the tin from the case, although this is hardly necessary
The case is lined in tan leather and has an internal partition . This leather is a little worn on the inside of the flap.
Inside there is a double hinged plated sandwich tin.
The tin is in very good condition, inside it is gilt washed and stamped "Merry St James".
There is also a rectangular flask with a sterling silver captured or bayonet cap which is hallmarked London 1913 and stamped "M & W" for Mappin & Webb.
The flask is wider than most examples
