This whip has a staghorn or antler hook shaped handle. It has a silver collar. This is hallmarked Birmingham 1923 and the the "J,H," in a diamond stamp for Jonathan Howell. It is also stamped "2". The stock or shaft is made of golden brown malacca cane, with its characteristic "teardrop" shaped cross-section.
The varnish of the cane has become worn where the whip has been held over the last 100 years It has a tan leather open keeper or loop wjich is probably a replacement.
