The mouthpiece is stamped "Merry" and St James's Street" The cheeks curve sharply backwards, each bears a rein loop, there is no shackle bar. There is a cast star shaped silver coloured cheek boss on each side of the bit. In the centre of each cheek badge there is a central cross surrounded by a garter which is surmounted by a Tudor crown.
The Tudor crown was used by King Edward VII (1901-1910) and by George V & George VI. The use of steel in the bit probably dates it before 1918.
