This is an old military horse bit, very similar to French examples from World War II. It is made of steel which has an aged dark patina. Its mouthpiece has a low port The cheeks are short, they have snaffle rings and integral curb rein rings, so the bit would function as a pelham. There are no maker's marks or stamps
