This nickel bit shows a lot of wear. The mouthpiece is half-twisted or reversible. It is stamped "..rust", this would have originally read "Never Rust" or "Cannot Rust". The cheeks turn, the joints between the mouthpiece and the cheeks are very worn. Each has three possible slots for the curb rein - this feature made the bit "Universal Pattern", it was often used by the military.
