A Victorian Derbyshire Yeomanry Cavalry Bridle - Bit1001
This bridle is made of very dark brown / black leather.
The browband has a domed brass rosette with a scalloped edge on each end.
The rosettes are threaded onto a flap with a brass stud closure.
The headstall has keepers which hold the T-bars of a watering bit.
It has brass buckles and rings.
There is a separate headpiece which is stitched onto the curb bit
It is in good condition for its age, there is a small amount of surface crackling in places, (please see images), the curb headpiece has a weak area on one side above the stitching - it would not be safe to ride with.
The steel curb bit has curved cheeks, each would have carries a badge or boss with a Victoria crown, a central Tudor rose and a garter which contains the words "Derbyshire Yeomanry Cavalry".
The mouthpiece of the bit has a low port and has partial stamps "...son".
The mouthpiece measures 4¾ inches (12cm).
