This African whip dates from the early 20th Century.
It would have been used for herding cattle and possibly as a weapon.
The pale shaft or stock is made of rolled hide
The handle is covered in bands of woven copper and brass wire typical of the Shona or Zulu people, these show some surface oxidation and traces of old metal polish.
There are two similar bands along the length of the whip
