This antique steel bit has slim straight swinging cheeks which can move through 90 degrees, and a Segundo mouthpiece with a port that narrows at its base.
Don Juan de Segundo designed several mouthpieces and described and illustrated them in "A Treatise on the Bitting of Horses", part of Benjamin Latchford's 1885 book, "The Loriner".
One cheek of the bit is stamped with a crown & "VR" and the maker's or retailer's stamp "Long".
The other cheek is stamped with a crown and "VR".
The bit still has its original curb hooks and rein rings.
