This old bit has a dark aged patina The jointed mouthpiece is curved. On one side the bit ring is connected via an "S" hook to another ring, this would have attached to a cheekpiece on the headstall.. The other side of the bit forms a hook which could be detached from the bridle, making this a watering bit. It was probably used on a working dray or farm horse.
