This whip has a silver (probably plated) handle cast with a sleeping hound lying on a bank of flowers The underside of the handle is ridged to help when opening and closing gates. There is a blank shield on the collar of the whip.
The long flexible whalebone or balleen shaft is covered in braided thread (linen or hemp), which is in good condition. The whip has a replacement silk and vellum lash on its end
