An old hand forged steel ring bit with russet surface oxidation. This severe mouthpiece with its high port and egg shaped ring that acts as a curb is also known as a "Mameluke" bit. The cheeks are curved and can turn. The bit has swivelling rein loops on the lower parts of the cheeks and the remains of one rein chain.
