This is a very light fine whip dating from the mid to late 19th century. Its gilt cap and collar have deeply cast foliate decoration with scrolling acanthus leaves.
Between the cap and collar, the grip is covered in finely braided black thread or possibly horsehair. The long slim shaft is covered in brown braided thread.
It is very flexible through its lower third, probably too flexible to be carried as anything more than a decorative accessory The whip still has the small loop at its end where a silk lash could be attached.
