Edwardian Hunting Whip by James Schomberg - w1621
This whip has a staghorn handle which has lost its tip.
There is a silver button on the heel of the handle, this is quite dented but it is stamped "Schomberg, London"
It has a silver collar which is hallmarked London 1910 and has the silversmith's stamp "J.S & S".
This stands for James Schomberg & Sons who were whip makers based in Long Acre, Covent Garden.
There are a few dents in the collar
The long stock or shaft is covered in thread or possibly catgut. It is in good condition
It has its original finely stitched leather keeper or tongue at its end and the remains of a braided thong
Dimensions : Staghorn : 4" (10cm) Length (not including keeper) 21" (53.5cm), keeper 9" (22.5cm)
