Pair of Brazilian Silver Spurs - Spur435
Pair of Brazilian Silver Spurs - Spur435
These spurs are fine examples of platería criolla or Latin American silverwork.
The arms of both spurs have cast scrolling decoration.
Each spur has a pierced flower shaped disc where its neck joins its body. The rowels are made of steel with many points, they still turn freely. One rowel is sandwiched between two thin metal discs, the other seems to have lost its discs.
Two finely made silver chains are attached to each heel plate - these fasten together with a hook decorated with a silver flower with a gold centre.
The arms of the spurs end in simply modelled clenched fists holding circular loops.
These loops hold hanging buttons which are connected by more fine chains with a central gold and silver flower.
There are no stamps or makers' marks, the metal of the spurs tests as 800 silver and shows some black silver tarnish.
