Peruvian Slipper Stirrup with a Bird - Stirrup385
Peruvian Slipper Stirrup with a Bird - Stirrup385
This stirrup is cast in a silver coloured metal (probably Alpacca or a similar alloy).
It comes from Latin America, most probably Peru.
At the top of its suspension arch there is a cast hand holding a loop - the stirrup leather would have passed through this.
The arch itself has cast decoration and pivots around the base of the stirrup.
The base is foot shaped and has simple decoration around its edge.
The toe was functional as well as decorative, it covered the front of the foot, preventing it from slipping through the iron and getting trapped.
It is decorated with a foliate design and a bird. It has a central green "stone" (probably glass)
