This is a very good quality tan coloured leather case . There is a dark diagonal mark on the front of the case It shows almost no wear, the fine stitching is very good and all the buckles and straps are in good order. There is a rectangular D ring on each side - so the canteen could be attached to the nearside or the off side of the saddle.
It is lined in doeskin or chamois which is in good clean condition.
Inside there is a double hinged plated sandwich tin. The tin is in very good condition, inside it is gilt washed. It is stamped "Swaine & Adeney Ltd., London" and "Made in England". There are a few small marks on its outside There is also a rectangular flask with a bayonet or captured cap. The cap is stamped "JD & S" and has the trumpet and banner stamp of James Dixon & Sons.
