The full title of this book is "The Great Horse or The War Horse : from the time of the Roman invasion till its development into the Shire Horse"

This is the second edition and was published by Vinton & Co,, London in 1899.

It has orange cloth boards with a gilt image and titles.

There is a white mark on the front cover

There are two bookplate in the front and an inscription, there is also a note that the frontispiece is missing.

 There are some pen and pencil lines on various pages. There is some light foxing throughout

It has sixteen black and white illustrations but the frontispiece of a mounted knight is missing.

There is a split in the paper over the back spine
