This is the first edition of this book, published in 1893 by W.Thacker & Co .
It was written by Alice M.Hayes and edited by Captain M. Horace Hayes, a British Army veterinary surgeon and author of many books
It contains 48 illustrations by J.H.Oswald-Brown and four photographs
There are chapters on horses, side saddle gear, bridle gear, riding dress, mounting, the seat, holding the reins, the aids, cross country, difficult horses, cross saddle riding for ladies, training the horse, and riding experiences.
At the back of the book there are advertisements for Capt.Hayes' other books and various Indian publications.
The book has red cloth boards with gilt title and a picture of a horse ridden sidesaddle. There is a stain on the front cover.
Inside it is in fair condition, with some foxing especially of the title page. There is a split in the paper on the inside front cover.
Modern re-prints of this book are available but this is a rare 1st edition
