A rebenque, an Argentinian whip carried by gauchos.
These heavy whips serve both as a whip for horses and cattle and as a club or weapon.
They are worn hung from the gaucho's belt.
In this example there is a swinging handle with cast foliate decoration in silver metal, probably Alpacca or a similar alloy. It is stamped "Industria Argent..."
The shaft of the whip is covered in silver metal with foliate and floral decoration.
There is a rawhide loop at the top which would attach the rebenque to the belt.
The whip has a pale strap-like rawhide lash with stitched decoration
